The win was sweet redemption for the Georgia racer after he had one of the strongest cars in the race last year but got caught several laps down after an issue and never could make them up. Roderick had never finished better than his seventh place run in 2019 in this iconic race before he picked up the win here in his sixth attempt at it dating back to 2008. This was Roderick's first win in any series since June 2018. This was the first year that the All American 400 was a points race for the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Super Late Model Tour. The event was a combination race this year for CARS, the ARCA CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS, ARCA Midwest Tour, and the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco. This led to a starting grid that was five cars larger than the 2019 race which was just an exhibition. The All American 400 was only 300 laps this year since the race was run in companion with a 100-lap CRA JEGS All-Stars Tour presented by Chevrolet Performance series race. Stephen Nasse pulled double duty and won that race over Nashville local Michael House amid a 32-car starting field. 2. Thorn shot from fourth place into the lead by the end of the second lap and was dominating the race until a lap 203 restart where Hocevar got a run at him on the outside in Turn 4. The two made contact and it ended in a crash with Thorn spinning out and both cars in trouble all the way down the front stretch to Turn 1. Thorn retired his #43 on the spot while Hocevar briefly took the lead under yellow despite massive front end damage but only managed to make a few slow laps before he had to park his #14. With Thorn and Hocevar on the hauler Corey Heim took the lead with Chandler Smith and Casey Roderick in pursuit. Roderick took the lead from Heim just before the motor went south in Heim's entry, ending his night and setting up the Roderick vs. Smith duel for the win. The last caution came with 33 to go for a spin by Jeremy Pate. Smith got past Roderick on the restart but Roderick passed him back four laps later and set sail for victory lane after that. Roderick credited a good mid-race adjustment to his car's shocks with giving his #25 Toyota the speed it needed to get the win. Stephen Nasse finished third in the main event. With Pate dropping out a few laps after his spin it allowed Nasse to pounce and best him for the Southern Super Series championship. 3. Matt Craig came into this race with an 18-point lead on Sammy Smith and 28-point edge on Kodie Conner. Craig finished 10th and won the championship as a result as Smith's KBM entry fell out with an overheating issue. Conner put his beautiful orange-and-black tiger-livered #45 on the pole and his eight-place finish was enough to list him past Smith into second in the final standings. U.S. Short Track Nationals winner Trevor Noles was third in CARS points coming into this race, just 22 off the lead so within striking distance of winning the championship, and was entered to compete in this one but was oddly not present. I could find no reason online for his absence here. 4. Glad to see he can smoke em in the southeast too. He has all but swept the Spears tour races this year in the west, he even already mathematically clinched that championship with one race left still 5. They got some together late, entered the race, won the pole, and had a great run. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
