Or the whole weekend, for that matter. He touched off the lap 2 pileup as well as an incident with Randy Porter. Porter apparently caught some serious air when Gill punted him straight off the track - Mobile is one of the most famous short tracks without outside walls lining most of the track - but Porter was able to continue the race one lap down after getting a tow back onto the asphalt. Gill had driven extremely aggressively when trying to pass cars all evening and forced a couple other drivers to chase their cars up the track when Gill moved them to gain positions. I don't think too many of them were disappointed when Gill crashed out in the waning laps, all on his own when pushing the car a little too hard on his way out of the fourth turn. This came right on the heels of the previous night's race at Five Flags, where a restart stackup caused Rick Crawford to go up in flames after contact with Gill. Jody Ridley won that race as well, but he had to make a clutch save in the final set of turns on the last lap when Gill rammed his back bumper. Ironically, Ridley had been more upset about his run-in with Gill than Crawford was, even though Crawford's car was smoldering on pit road at the end while Ridley was celebrating in victory lane. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
