lap counter says Mike Cope lead the last lap but Jody Ridley is given
credit for the victory?

Cope did take the checkered flag, then was penalized back to 2nd place.

Race date - Sunday, March 20, 1994

Partial starting lineup:

14. Crawford
28. Niedecken

Three "Juniors" were in the top eight in qualifying, and they all wound
up in the bottom eight in the race. The significance? I don't know, just
something neat to point out.

Cope spun Ridley out in turn 4 of the final lap, touching off a brawl
when both drivers made their way back around to the frontstretch with
crew in tow. More than an hour after the checkered flag, series
officials announced Cope would be assessed a 5-second penalty, added to
his final lap time, elevating Ridley to the win instead. Ridley said
Cope was too good a driver to resort to moving someone out of the way
for the win, labeling him talented but dirty; Cope's only comment to the
media was that for being the dominant driver of the series by far,
Ridley sure whined a lot, before adding that he'd show Ridley by winning
the championship that year. Well, Cope would indeed deliver on that last
part, ending Ridley's reign of terror on the tour.
