Margin of victory - .160 seconds

More controversy abound here: officials deemed Toby Porter's engine was
oversized and that it failed post-race inspection, but ultimately the
final results sheet did not change and Porter kept his win over Billy
Bigley.

Dr. Jerry Punch and Benny Parsons were the commentators. John Kernan was
the sole pit road reporter.

Mark Gerke had a brutal crash in this race, smacking the concrete hard
exiting turn 4 and launching his car onto its left side as it rode the
wall. The primitive - by today's standards, anyway - catchfence and
guardrail sheared the right side of the body of the car off before the
car came back to earth on all four wheels. Well, three wheels, actually
- the left front came off upon impact and bounced back into the racing
line where it was punted by an unlucky Tammy Jo Kirk. Her car took
significant right front damage, but overall was not too much worse for
the wear after a brief stint behind the wall.
