Hal Goodson came into this race with the points lead but crashed into the outside wall and ended up well down the running order as a result. With title rival Mike Cope winning the race the championship would go down to the season finale at Myrtle Beach with Goodson still ahead of Cope with Ron Barfield, Jr. also in contention. The race itself saw Cope start first and lead early before Barfield pulled ahead to lead the most laps. Visiting ASA competitor Tony Raines, driving a #87 painted identically to his car in that series, raced up into contention and took the lead from Barfield but his night ended when Rick Crawford punted him straight out of the lead and into the outside wall. Cope later got the lead back after another caution and held on to defeat Ron Young for the win. 5. This victory was Cope's fifth of the season and he was quite proud that he was able to bring that goal to fruition. Cope won three of the season's last five races in his final bid for the title. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
