Freddie Query claims his second-straight All American 400 victory and
his ninth win in 18 races in the 1998 season. This would prove to be
Query's final All Pro victory, in 1999 he took a stab at the NASCAR
Busch series and after it didn't work out he did not return to racing in
the All Pro series full time.

A driver named Mark Martin failed to qualify for this race - but not

I think the Tennessee Mark Martin was a Nashville local. I recall seeing
him race on TNN back when they televised some of Nashville's weekly
local races.

How the field was set:
Top 30 on qualifying time
31-34 were provisionals for the top 4 drivers in Southeast Series points
that didn't make the top 30 on time
35 was for the winner of the first LCQ
36 was for the winner of the second LCQ
37 was for 2nd place in the first LCQ
38 was for 2nd place in the second LCQ
39-40 were for the two fastest qualifiers that hadn't made it in on any
of the other provisions listed above

The difference between Andy Kirby making it clearly in the show on speed
and Mark Martin (the other one!) missing the field on speed was less
than 2 hundredths of a second. The All American 400 was serious business!

The Austin Crackers team called in a ringer for this one as it replaced
David Moyer with former All-Pro champion Mike Cope behind the wheel of
the blue #25 Chevrolet. Cope was looking for redemption after his Busch
series bid earlier in the season failed and he came very close to
getting it. Cope's car was fast and he led the most laps only for
Freddie Query to pass him in the races closing stages as a failing rear
end gear took him out of the race. Query won his second-straight All
American 400 while Cope would never score a win in the famous race
despite running well here throughout the 1990s.
