The 2001 All Pro series kicks off with Florida's Scott Carlson recording
his first series victory as the tour visits Mobile International
Speedway for the final time, and the first time since 1996. Carlson
ultimately only ran a part-time schedule this season.

A new era begins for the All Pro series as Gatorade takes over as the
series' title sponsor...and only sticks around for one year.

Notably, this marked the return of Stanley Smith to NASCAR competition,
nearly 8 years after he suffered a basilar skull fracture in a Cup race
at Talladega.

Jimmy Foster wound up outside of the track during his lap 30 accident
and a red flag period ensued to retrieve his car. Steven Howard also
went out of the track on lap 86 - Mobile famously has only a
frontstretch wall.
