As part of the pre-race entertainment for this race, Saugus ran a promotion that had a stuntman strap himself to a chair, light 3 sticks of dynamite underneath, and see how far he could fly across the track. Predictably, the stuntman was badly burned after blowing himself up and he was not asked back for the 1987 season.
