He wins after starting shotgun on the field at the back of a giant grid on the twisty Riverside circuit. 6. RaceFanX posted: 05.21.2020 - 3:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Duke Hoenshell lost here at Riverside to Ron Esau earlier in the year when the Tour's May stop on the SoCal road course saw him best Esau in a last lap battle for the lead only to taste defeat when he blew an engine, settling for second place. It had to be some very sweet redemption to come back just five months later and not only seal the deal with a big win but to best Esau this time to do it. 7. Hetrick reportedly had his arm in a splint after the incident, however the other driver involved was OK. Hoenshell's car started on pole but his pole time was disallowed due to inspection failure, the frame did not meet regulations and they had to add 150 lbs. lead. He took the lead on lap 36, then after a slow pit stop took it back on lap 50 to win by 8.1 seconds.
