He came out of retirement to battle it out at Phoenix. On pit road under the ninth caution, he came out of his stall and made slight contact with Darrell Waltrip, then gunned it down pit road and hit another car pulling out and almost vaunted over the pit wall. His day was done shortly thereafter. Ron Hornaday Jr. crashed hard in turn 1 with 2 to go and sat there against the wall, but no caution was called. This allowed Scott Hansen to close up to Dick Trickle but Trickle hung on to win the race. 3. Mark Perry's #01 crashed on the front stretch hard, going into the inside wall, before he got nailed from behind by Butch Miller as the latter had no time to react, sending both cars spinning into the outside wall in the turn. The impact tore Perry's fuel cell and caused a gasoline spill and momentarily large fire but thankfully it largely burned out on its own just before Miller bailed out of his entry. Both drivers walked away. Miller ran this race, his last in the Southwest Tour, in a red #2 that was one of his usual #52s with a digit removed to accommodate the series' usual #52 of Roman Calczynski. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
