Las Vegas native Chris Trickle was shot and ended up in a coma he after a drive-by shooting only a week after the series' prior race at Phoenix. With Trickle fighting for life in a hospital bed his #70 Star Nursery Chevrolet team called in Sean Monroe to drive his car and he brought it home with a strong run to finish fourth. Trickle would ultimately succumb to his injuries just over a year after this race, the case of who shot him and why never being solved. Chris Raudman picks up the first of his three wins in 1997. Of his five career Southwest Tour wins this would be his only one on a superspeedway. ASA racer Matt Kenseth makes his second and final Southwest Tour start and places in the top-5. In about a month he would make his Busch series debut and launch his career into the stratosphere. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
