Mesa Marin track champion and hometown hereo Frank Adamo led the last
third of this race and seemingly scored his first Southwest Tour win
here. HOWEVER he was disqualified after the race when his car was found
to have an illegal clutch during an inspection. This would have been
Adamo's only Southwest Tour win had it stood up.

With Adamo DQed Bryan Germone inherited the win without even leading a
lap. It was his only win of 1998 and his penultimate one in the series.
