Georgia's Steven Christian, a NASCAR All Pro racer who moved over to the
USAR Hooters ProCup tour for 1999, makes his lone NASCAR Southwest Tour
start and turns in a dominant run before falling well out of contention
before the finish.

Pole speed: 89.150 mph by Jim Inglebright (no invert)

First caution - 21, 96 accident frontstretch
Sixth caution - 0 flat tire

An oddity: 6 of the bottom 8 qualifiers finished among the top 9 in the
race. It wasn't a case of the underdogs having a great day, though -
with 60 cars on the entry list in the NASCAR late model portion of
Winter Heat and 40 on the full-bodied West list for the following
weekend, it was very well-attended. Former Southwest champ Bryan Germone
and reigning West champ Kevin Harvick were among the standouts who had
to take provisionals before racing into the top ten by the race's end.
The extensive DNQ list featured 10 drivers who are NASCAR touring series
race winners and even a former Southwest champion in Ron Esau, as well
as a future 2-time Northwest tour champ in Kevin Hamlin.
