To the rear - 33 - driver change/failed tech WD: Kevin Para, #15 Royal Roofing/Quick Time Chevrolet DC: Ross Thompson - 33 - Ford LA Street Race - Ford Thompson qualified Schrader's car 2nd quickest while Schrader was at the Cup race at Darlington, finishing 9th. The car failed tech after the first round of qualifying and bumped Matt Crafton into the field as the 20th and final first round qualifier. Thompson promptly ran the fastest lap in second round qualifying early the next morning, officially placing 21st on the board before Schrader arrived from his cross-country jaunt. Schrader crashed out around halfway, finishing 29th, and made his way back to the airport, taking yet another flight up to Utah to run the Monday night Winston West show. Schrader led 51 laps in that event and finished 8th, his best result of the weekend. I believe his car here might have been a team car to Matt Crafton's. Tim Woods III never made an attempt at second-round qualifying, he had an issue in round one that left him as the slowest driver to take time with a "fast" lap of 24.399 mph. Unsure if it was a mechanical failure or if it was an accident. The toughest break in qualifying had to have come from local road racer Tara Beattie who was 27th in first round qualifying, the best effort from anyone who wound up DNQing the morning of the race. Ed Coughenour was excited to be back driving himself instead of just owning the car for the 1999 edition of this race, but after signing on some locally-based sponsors the weekend went downhill. After not timing into the field in first round qualifying, the car broke in second round qualifying. While working on the car, his crew chief got word that his son - also a crew member on the team - was seriously injured in a car accident on the way to the track that morning. With the CC gone, the car still on the mend, and the team's thoughts elsewhere, Coughenour was unable to make it to the grid for the green flag. Craig Raudman nosed into the tire barriers at one point (the OG Chase Elliott at the Roval, anyone?), needing to be pushed out by corner workers, yet still rallied back to finish 2nd by a slim margin. Raudman said that by the time the race was winding down, a dying battery + nose damage + all fans off + a busted alternator belt was one of the more favorable situations that any of the leaders had to deal with! Raudman rallied from 6th to 2nd in the last ten laps, supposedly without the aid of any caution flags, and said he would have won the race given maybe just 1 more lap. 9. rm posted: 07.07.2020 - 8:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Missed a couple statuses, sorry: 9 - running 10 - running 59 - running 34 - running 10. rm posted: 10.24.2020 - 6:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Time of race: 2:39:46 Average speed: 46.943 mph ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
