It had to be something of a redemption for Hansen with this win in Ken Schrader's car after Schrader had replaced him for the Truck series finale a week earlier. It was Hansen's fifth and final victory in the series, impressively all of them came at Phoenix in fall during the series' big undercard race to the Cup series' visit to Phoenix. Already crowned 1999 Southwest Tour champion Kurt Busch makes his final start as a regular in the series. He left the series to move up to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2000. Kevin Quesnell's seventh was his only top-10 on the Southwest Tour. This was his last start in the series. IndyCar racer Jeff Ward and NASCAR Midwest racer Justin Diercks make their only Southwest Tour starts. Damon Lusk makes his final Southwest Tour start. He moved up to ARCA for 2000. 2. Bryans A photo from the event of a young Matt Crafton: https://i.imgur.com/hEMw5Km.jpg Well it wouldn't be a big-time late model race without some controversy in the tech line, would it? Winner Hansen was found to have an illegal carb plate spacer, leading to weekend-long speculation that runner-up David Stremme would be declared the big winner after a ruling from the sanctioning body on Monday. Three days later, the word came in: Hansen & his team would be fined, but he got to keep the trophy. As already mentioned, Hansen had won this very race four times previously when it was at the grueling 300km distance, and he had won most of those in convincing fashion. It was unusual for to win by leading only the last fraction of a lap. In some positive news following the race, Darrell LaMoure's top ten run was made even sweeter with the news that his first grandchild was born on the Monday after the race. LaMoure was a longtime supporter of the Nation's Missing Children Organization and Racing for the Missing, so it was also nice for there to be something upbeat about mentioning children and LaMoure in the same sentence. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
