In early May 1999 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Rick Carelli was nearly killed when a vicious crash at Memphis Motorsports Park left him with a basal skull fracture and other serious injuries. The "High Plains Drifter" spent the rest of the year on the mend before making his return to racing here on his favored stopping grounds at Phoenix in advance of another full-time Truck Series campaign. Carelli's first race back didn't just see him back behind the wheel, it saw him back in victory lane! He jumped past polesitting NASCAR Winston Cup racer Ken Schrader into the lead on the opening lap and proceeded to lead every lap on his way to a much needed victory. Sponsor: #6 Rick Carelli- Arvada Excavating / RE/MAX (owner was Ed Belec) Belec was a high school friend of Carelli's and they were going to run this race as teammates. Belec though failed to qualify for this race while his other car won it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
