After failing to qualify for the first two races of the year and crashing out of the third, he leads 41 laps and beats out future truck series champ Matt Crafton in what would be his only Top 5 in a NASCAR sanctioned race, much less his only win. 3. rm posted: 10.24.2020 - 7:42 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Thompson's winnings - $10,175 Third caution - 04, 34, 70, 71, 88, 98 accident frontstretch Was also a very impressive run for Matt Crafton to get second. Matt didn't turn a lap in the car until qualifying because he was in the hospital overnight with kidney stones. Matt's father Danny Crafton shook down the car by taking laps in practice instead. The input from his father, a longtime veteran on the Southwest tour himself, was clearly valuable as Matt put it P5 in qualifying and then P2 in the race. Danny had last started a Southwest tour race in 1996. Crafton didn't originally finish second, though, as the runner-up was flagged as Rick Carelli. His car failed postrace inspection for having an unspecified unapproved part and he was dropped to last. That meant that the Re/Max team had the bottom two finishers at the company's home race...ouch. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
