This race gave Paul his big break in NASCAR. Andy Petree was a guest of
Ken Schrader and was late to the event, showing up just as Menard passed
and beat Ken. Petree signed Paul to a A/B/C package in 2003 following
this event.

Other notables:
Matt Crafton running doing double duty
Erik Darnell in 6th (future Roush driver)
Future Busch series regulars Brandon Whitt, Auggie Vidovich, and Burney
Lamar competed.

Future cup driver David Gilliland has a rough showing in 25th.

Menard was a regular in the NASCAR Re/Max Midwest Series in 2002 and
crossed over to the Southwest Tour to run three of its larger racers.
This victory was his only one on the Southwest Tour.

Last race for the southwest tour that had Featherlite as its sponsor
autozone sponsored the series the next year
