David Gilliland makes his final NASCAR Southwest Tour start and wins the
race as the series sadly makes its final visit to Mesa Marin Raceway
before the track was demolished. The Bakersfield track was a staple of
the series, hosting 62 races from 1987 to 2005.

Gilliland only ran a three-race part-time schedule in 2005 and tallied a
top-10 every time he suited up. This was his third win at Mesa Marin.

Former NBA player Derek Strong runs his only race in this series. I used
to race NASCAR simulator cars against him at Universal City Walk in Los
Angeles. Great guy.

This was actually the series' 65th total race at Mesa Marin and since it
would be the final one, they decided to run 300 laps for the first time
since 1996 as the final endurance race for the series as well.

Tenth caution - 03, 11 accident turn 1
