The fifth-place finisher was Belgian racer Theodore Pilette, not bad for
his only Indy 500 start. This is likely a computer error and not one by
any staff members, he's already listed on the site.

Jules Goux becomes the first European (and first non-American) racer to
win the 500, doing so in his first attempt at the race.

From the file of "There's no way in Heck that could happen today," Goux
not only drank champagne during the race itself but drank six full
bottles of it.

The first of IMS' scoring pagodas debuted for this race.

Only Indy 500 starts for Theodore Pilette, George Clark, Robert Evans,
Joe Nikrent, Vincenzo Trucco, Paul Zuccarelli, and Don Herr.

Last Indy 500 starts for Billy Leisaw, Jack Tower, Harry Endicott,
Johnny Jenkins, and Bill Endicott.
