This was a very common problem at the Speedway at the time due to the way the turns were banked; it was acting as a launching ramp for cars to vault over the wall. Bailey suffered an injured wrist, but was otherwise unhurt. According to Speedway historian Donald Davidson, when the wrecking crew went out to collect Miller's car-they couldn't find it! Miller and his riding mechanic Eddie Tynan were completely unhurt, and though the car was too badly damaged to continue in the race, it could still fire up and be driven. So Miller proceeded to limp the car away from where it crashed, through one of the tunnels back into the track, and back to the garage area where the car was parked for the day. 8.
