It didn't work, Sneva passed Little Al than passed his dad to win the race. First Indy 500 win for the March chassis 3. Crashed outta that one too when he got mixed up with Jerry Sneva in turn 2. Luckily in much less dramatic fashion. 6. He may not have made the race but if we ever even thought we needed more proof the future Winston Cup race winner could win anything anywhere well there you go. 8. A major upset wasn't in the cards though as his green-and-white Skoal Bandit #33 was on the sidelines by lap 50. 9. Foyt's only CART start of 1983, Supertex went out early and was never a factor. 11. RaceFanX posted: 07.23.2017 - 5:47 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Roger Mears' last Indy 500 ends in a crash. I tried looking into the Earnhardt rumor and it appears that's just a legend. Earnhardt was a big enough name by 1983 that it would have been huge news if he had tried his hand at Indianapolis. In one version of this legend it even had him racing a Wrangler-sponsored car (like his Bud Moore Cup car) and crashing on his rookie test with plans of being in this race possibly instead of the 600. I can't see that. 13. RaceFanX posted: 04.04.2018 - 12:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Tom Sneva won his lone Indy 500 in his tenth attempt at the famous race. While he'd start another eight Indy 500s after this he never again finished the famous race. 14. A blown engine doomed his chances of a good finish though. 15. After that, they decided not to run, quietly packing up and leaving. 17. When the Patrick crew informed the network of this bizarre situation, Paul Page gave him a shoutout with a chuckle, "Chip, if you're out there, hi to ya!" 18.
