Buddy Lazier's brother Jacques was expected to take Phil's place behind the wheel, but he never made a qualifying attempt. Just as the gun was fired at 6 PM local on Bump Day, Mexico's Mario Dominguez was on track trying to bump Marty Roth from the field. His first lap indicated that he could do it, but he crashed between Turns 1 and 2. 4. The actual pace car during the race was a Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. This was the tenth time a Corvette was the Indy 500 pace car. 7. The incident occurred just past the halfway point. 10. The team initially showed up for this event with their car liveried up for new sponsor RESQ Energy Drink only to find out after practice had began that RESQ had never agreed to any sponsorship and the company the team was working with on that sponsorship never had permission to represent them. RESQ apologized for the mixup but it still left Fisher with blank side pods for much of the month of May until new sponsors including Text4Cars.com and Direct Supply plus a lot of fan donations came in to get her team the funding it needed for the race. Her team picked up sponsorship from Dollar General after this race to run a few events later in the season. Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton visited Fisher and her team at the track on May 6, tying in with that year's the Indiana primary election as the former first lady sought the Democratic nomination for president. Clinton narrowly defeated Barack Obama to win the primary but Obama would win both the nomination and presidency later in the year. 14.
