Neil Bonnett, in his only Busch start of 1985, drove Darrell Waltrip's #17 in this race while DW focused on the all-star event. Neil told Darrell all the cars were running looser than expected after the race and DW and his team adjusted the setup on his #11 Budweiser Cup car to compensate for it. Waltrip of course went on to win The Winston. 6. RaceFanX posted: 01.14.2018 - 5:07 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Think Buschwacking is a modern issue only? Think again. Brett Bodine was interviewed before the start of this race and said that the biggest issue for the Busch racers would be all the Winston Cup racers in the field for this one. He would go on to finish in the top-5 but his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Tim Richmond, a Cup driver coming over for a one-off from the Blue Max team, would win it. Richmond won this race in a #15 Levi Garrett entry painted exactly like Geoff Bodine's Cup car at the time with Brett Bodine racing an identical #5. Ironically there was a car in this race that was painted somewhat like Richmond's Cup car as the Blue Max squad fielded a Pontiac for World of Outlaws ace Sammy Swindell as they did in several races that season. Slammin' Sammy was taken out in a multi-car crash at lap 72. 7. Mannoroth posted: 01.15.2018 - 7:30 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 6. Yep, very few (or almost all) drivers buschwhacked. And every Cup Series champion ran at least one race after his first championship. Even Richard Petty, but that was in the Winston West Series (K&N Pro Series West). 8.
