ARCA legend Lee Raymond makes his only start in the Busch Series.
Despite an impressive record in ARCA, Raymond only joined the NASCAR
boys twice in his career running this event and making a start in the
1989 Daytona 500

As this was a combination race with the ARCA Permatex SuperCar Series,
and Davey Allison was entered as an ARCA, not Busch, driver, the #23
owner should probably be Bill Collins, who owned Allison's ARCA entries.

BGN officials feared a short field at a midwestern track, so this was a
combination race with ARCA. At least 12 ARCA drivers attempted the
event, and the field of 30 was set first through pole qualifying and
then a heat race where these 5 ARCA vets were among the DNQs.

So this marks the first NASCAR/ARCA combination race (the other was in
1991 in Collage Station Texas).

ARCA and NASCAR had several combination races in the early 70s when ARCA
was paired up with the Grand National East series. I'm not sure if there
were any before that time period or not.

So much for a supposedly short field, looks like a 50-50 mix of southern
teams and midwestern teams. Also not sure what would have happened in
the case of any duplicate numbers should any of those drivers made the
show, I would guess the southern Busch regular teams had priority.

This race was a combination event with the ARCA race of the same date,
and should be listed/scored as such. Davey Allison was credited with the
ARCA win, his 8th and final in the series.

Allison, Bobby Dotter, Bosco Lowe, Bill Venturini, David Simko, Lee
Raymond, and Kirk Bryant were all ARCA entrants.

It's the only time ARCA has had a combination event with either of the
top two series of NASCAR.
