Norwalk, Connecticut's Randy LaJoie (1996 & 1997 Busch Champ) scores his first career Top 5, as does Busch North legend Kelly Moore. And in their last starts, Larry Caron and Darren Bernier earn a Top 5 and a Top 10 respectively. 2. what ahap posted: 12.21.2006 - 2:00 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 47 cars on a 1/3 mile track?! 3. All of top-6 were Busch North racers 9. Pacer posted: 03.11.2010 - 11:47 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bob Healey's only Busch Series race, like many others he was a Busch North racer at the time 10. The remaining starters had to qualify through heat races. 11. aaron posted: 07.14.2013 - 12:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Billy Standridge seeds the 47 to Kelly Moore for this race and drives the 57. 12. aaron posted: 07.14.2013 - 12:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Cedes** 13. b4il3y posted: 09.05.2013 - 3:25 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) North guys decided to own this race. The first yellow did not happen until almost the halfway point of the race. The layout of the track at Oxford lends itself to being able to start more cars and have fewer wrecks than if you started the same amount of cars on a larger half mile track. Oxford is almost a perfectly round track so the cars are carrying a lot of momentum all the way around the track and you are not really braking hard to get into the turns.(plus it is pretty wide for a track that size) Much of the passing can be done on the outside lane. The reason for the 47 starters was because of the Busch(southern Busch Series)officials. Usually the race will qualify 36 to 37 cars. Then there would be the usual provisionals. However, the regular Busch Series officials decided that certain southern based teams just had to be in the field despite the fact they could get in through 4 ROUNDS of qualifying(that year they had time trials, then heat races, then consolation races, then a last chance\b-main race) or were not high enough in points to get the provisionals that were already given out. Since it was combined race with Busch North, their officials decided if 2 extra Busch drivers were going to be added, then 2 more Busch North cars were going to be put in the race too. Plus the Oxford weekly cars were still within the rules to race back then, so the track points leader who had trouble in qualifying also made the field with a provisional. I believe Morgan Shepard was also given a "promoters option" and was able to start near the back too. This was still when he was winning races in Cup and Busch, but he had an issue the heat races so did not qualify through them. Morgan had always come up for the Oxford 250 dating back to when it was part of the Late Model Sportsman circuit in 1970's and was always fast there. 19. LINK: https://bigalsphotos.smugmug.com/Phil-Prior-Collection/Oxford-Plains-Speedway-Pro/ It appears the No. 52 of Bruce Haley was actually an Oldsmobile Ciera. Basically, a short track version of the sloped rear window two-door Ciera that ran in ARCA at the time. The DNQ No. 88 of Larry Caron has Buick logos on the hood, but looks like an Oldsmobile Cutlass. Interesting. Bob Gerry, who DNQ'd, was driving a No. 77 Chevrolet Celebrity with sponsorship from Fisher Snow Plows. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
