Larry Pearson wins the race and tallies a season sweep at South Boston
in the process as this race had major championship implications. Mike
Alexander came into this race with a scant two-point advantage on Tommy
Ellis but had serious issues. Ellis' runner-up finish while Alexander
finished 75 laps down in 20th vaulted Ellis into the points lead and he
would not relinquish it for the rest of the season en route to the
NASCAR Busch Series championship. This was first time all year Ellis had
lead the points.
