Had he lived the record books would look very different, I believe. He was the next Jeff Gordon before anyone ever knew who Jeff Gordon was. 5. 23andJoe posted: 12.22.2017 - 6:07 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Ben Hess won the All Pro Auto Parts Challenge "hooligan race". 6. He let brother Michael Waltrip drive his #17 car at Darlington in the Busch series apparently telling him if he had a good finish he could drive it at Dover, Mikey finished 3rd. He drove it again at Dover and won the race in just his 4th career Busch start. In victory lane DW, Michael and the interviewer all talked about how before that race DW had told Michael if he won he could drive it at Charlotte. Looks like big brother Darrell decided to go back on his word. No wonder Mikey would never let him drive the Aaron's dream machine. 8. Maybe he WAS going to drive it, but ended up replacing Ronnie Silver for whatever reason, leaving Darrell to drive his own car. 9. Indy Lights points leader Dave Simpson, the son of racing safety expert Bill Simpson, crosses over to make his NASCAR debut and actually had a great run going before he crashed HARD, flattening the front of his #77 almost back to the fire wall. Simpson was injured in the crash and missed the last two Lights races of the year, losing the open wheel championship there as a result. 10. As stated, he won the race, Bouchard 2nd, third Thurman, last transfer Peck. There apparently was a pretty big crash on lap 1 that took out a few drivers, including Schulz and Cudmore. 11.
