What happened to Ottinger, was he and Houston were battling for the win
and Ottinger got loss and spun out.

Michael Waltrip qualified on pole for Rob Moroso who couldn't make it to
the track because of Hurricane Hugo

Reigning Busch Series champion Tommy Ellis came into this race leading
Tommy Houston by 12 points in the championship standings. The blow
engine early in the race here largely doomed his chances of back to back
titles. Houston's last lap move for victory here meant he left
Martinsville now leading the point standings by 92 points after his big
gain here but his title hopes too would eventually end in a cloud of
smoke on the same track when the series returned for the finale here at
Martinsville a month later.

On a related note, Rob Moroso's third-place finish lifted him from fifth
to third in the standings as he continued his valiant late season charge
toward the title.
