However, he crashed in the morning practice and his team was unable to repair the car so he withdrew. 2. Cars involved were #2 Ricky Craven, #17 Darrell Waltrip, #19 Cecil Eunice, #28 Davey Allison, #41 Jamie Aube, #63 Chuck Bown, #79 Dave Rezendes, and #96 Tom Peck. 3. No, 5 races were not televised, they were: Daytona (2/16), Lanier (4/27), Hickory (6/15), Oxford (7/7), Dublin (7/27) 8. RaceFanX posted: 07.10.2018 - 9:32 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Why would Daytona not be televised? It was a different era, and skipping the standalone short tracks doesn't seem too unusual, but that seems weird they skipped the season opener at a big track on the undercard for the biggest race of the year. 9. nascarman posted: 07.10.2018 - 11:05 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Sure was weird. As far as I could find, ABC showed the Daytona race in 1978 and CBS showed it in 1979, both months later. And then no coverage until 1990 when Prime Network covered it. Then apparently they didn't return in 1991. Back then all television contracts were between the track and the network, dont know why Daytona wouldn't get a deal to televise the Busch race for all those years until ESPN did in 1992. 10. It wasn't until CBS got the rights in 1997 that the Daytona round went live. 11. I've since learned that the Busch races at Daytona between 1982 and 1984 were shown on the USA Network. 14. Just watched this race; couple observations: - Butch Miller's car was an Olds (not a Chevy as listed). - Davey Johnson's car was unsponsored (no hood or rear 1/4 panel decals), but had a decal on the rear decklid which may/may not have been the Daily's sponsorship. - Tom Peck's wreck must have been terrifying to him, heading at the wall at an angle which has had devastating/fatal results for many other drivers. Yet he looked as normal as usual during his postrace interview. They grow 'em tough there in McConnellsburg! 17. If I had to guess, it would be because the guys didn't want to spend a lot of extra time redoing the car number at the last minute after the other guy dropped out. I don't think there was a rule against it if they had wanted to back then. Maybe there was though and that was the reason. 18. This race was considered a companion event between the Busch and Busch North series. So, naturally you are going to get duplicate numbers. Tony Hirschmann was using the #1 for the first part of the Busch North season, while Jeff Gordon used #1 in the Busch series. The rule for NASCAR at the time was the the better qualifying car got to use the number and the other guy had to change. Hirschmann qualified 6th while Gordon was 29th (I'm assuming). Hirschman could use #1 while Gordon changed to #4. They weren't the only ones affected by this. Jimmy Hensley(Busch) and Ricky Craven(Busch North) each used #25 for their respective series. For some of the companion events Craven used #2, #28, and #85 as Hensley outqualified him each time. The roles were reversed at the October Loudon event were Craven outqualified Hensley and Hensley switched to #5. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
