Pat Jones took a nasty head-on hit into the outside wall exiting Turn 4 to put himself out of the race. His Pontiac got in the loose stuff and Jones over-corrected it. The Pontiac was thrashed and Jones suffered a foot injury in this, his one and only Busch Grand National start. Cautions: 1: Laps 28-36? Crash on frontstretch involving, 1-J. Gordon, 5-Berrier, 6-T. Houston, 19-Eunice, 37-Burgess 75-W. Burton, 86-J. Green. 2: Laps 75-84? Crash exiting Turn 4 involving 67-Jones. 3: Laps 101-103 Spin on frontstretch involving 85-Rush. Oh yes, and according to TNN's Ed Hennecy, 00-Lasater (driving in place of Gary Neice) S&P'ed "In order to save the car for Hickory next week." Didn't work, as Neice DNQ'd at Hickory. 4. 23andJoe posted: 06.05.2014 - 8:30 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) #15 crew chief: Tim Kohuth Cautions: Lap 28-36: #1, #5, #6, #19, #27, #75, #86 accident frontstretch Lap 75-84: #67 accident turn 4 Lap 101-103: #85 spin frontstretch 5. I'm always amazed to see how small things in BGN were back then - crews, haulers, attendance, purses, etc., and the fact that did not even have a pit wall! 7. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 07.29.2015 - 6:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Good try 23andjoe but you're a tad off Caution 1: Lap 30-36 Caution 2: Lap 76-88 Caution 3: Lap 101-102 8. grissom fan posted: 06.02.2017 - 10:32 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Just had a few further thoughts after rewatching this race (THANK YOU Buggy Boy for uploading!!): 1) perhaps the 1st crash on the frontstretch was from Tommy Ellis' car losing an engine & others getting caught up in the mess? My reasoning is from seeing Ellis walking down pit road during the caution (camera has a closeup of him), but not seeing/hearing his car involved in the wreck, & his reason listed as 'out' was due to 'engine'. 2) perhaps Pat Jones bad wreck was due to not only getting in the marbles & overcorrecting, but during that 1st long caution, his car spent a long time in the pits (w/his crew checking under the car) & maybe the rt. front of that Pontiac suffered some sort of mechanical failure (tie rod, bearing, hub, etc.) 9. grissom fan posted: 06.02.2017 - 1:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sorry for the repost, but just learned the reason for Pat Jones' wreck was that the car apparently had lost brakes. 10. It really seemed that Pressley was going to win this race from the drop of the green because he almost immediately sprung to a full straightaway lead over pole sitter Chuck Bown but as the race wore on, it was Kenny Wallace that emerged as the dominant force. In traditional short track fashion, Tommy Houston with a battered nose of his Buick and Butch Miller driving for Wayne Day appeared to be as fast as Wallace but they had too much ground to try to catch up and without a late caution, Wallace had the cushion and cruised to an enthusiastic first win 13. I'll imagine his excitement and joy of his first win in my head. I can see it now, congrats Kenny, you're so happy and I'm so happy for you too. Funny guy and glad you got one under your belt bud. 14.
