This win was the first of the season for a driver using Hoosier tires. Miller had miss a friend's wedding to be in this race. He apologized to them, Kevin and Connie Burnett of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, for it from victory lane and sent them congratulations from victory lane live on TNN. This race was run on Easter. Hickory was repaved before the 1991 season with this as the first Busch race on the new pavement. 13. Brings back so many great memories. Couple observations: 1) Butch Miller's car is clearly an Olds (& not a Chevy, as is listed) - Day must have had a few Olds leftover for the short tracks. 2) Several drivers got next to no mention at all thruout most of the race, including Bobby Labonte, Bobby Dotter, & Robert Pressley. 3) Ed Ferree, wow! Quite possibly his best run ever of a rather short career where he was better known for wrecking or being in the way, but he nearly pulled off a huge upset today & just finishing in the top 5 was a big deal for him for sure. 4) Also think Ernie Irvan's sponsor was Mac Tools. 15. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 07.07.2017 - 2:51 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Caution 1: Lap 4-5: debris turn 1 Caution 2: Lap 19-22: #9,34 spun turn 2 Caution 3: Lap 26-30: #1,32 spun turn 4 Caution 4: Lap 48-51: #05,28,32 accident turn 4 Caution 5: Lap 63-68: #63 spun turn 4 Caution 6: Lap 80-82: #72 spun turn 2 Caution 7: Lap 92-95: #16 spun frontstretch Caution 8: Lap 109-112: #34,79 accident turn 4 Caution 9: Lap 122-128: #70 spun turn 4 Caution 10: Lap 138-140: #16,70 spun turn 3 Caution 11: Lap 153-156: Caution 12: Lap 208-214: #49,70 accident frontstretch Caution 13: Lap 220-221: #9 spun turn 1 Caution 14: Lap 225-227: #27 spun frontstretch Caution 15: Lap 238-243: #9 accident turn 1 Caution 16: Lap 249-254: #1 accident turn 2 Caution 17: Lap 260-266: #6,27,28,32,63,72,79,96 accident frontstretch 16. The 1 and 32 spun for Caution 2 then they went to commercial and when they came back they were under caution again and said it was for #9 and #34 spinning into grass and dirt but the commentator mistakenly called it Caution 2 when it was Caution #3. Mysterious Caution #11: They came back from break and the commentator just said "guess what, we are under caution yet again" but never said why or showed a replay, so it makes me think it must have been debris or oil on the track, but you can't go by a guess. They had the longest green flag run of the day following that caution, so no idea why they never said what caused it. 19 yr old Jeff Gordon had his best run of his short Busch career in this race. After qualifying 2nd, he had a terrible start when the green flag dropped to start this race, falling all the way back to at least 10th or 11th in just 3 laps before the 1st caution came out. Then he was involved in the 2nd caution shortly after with Jarrett that put him a lap down and spent half the race getting that lap back. He had finally worked his way back up to 2nd, didn't have anything for the leader, but looked like he wasn't going to let anyone get by him til a rod broke and sent him into the wall. They fixed it and got him back out to run a few laps for a disappointing 15th place finish. You could see so much improvement in this race from the first several races he ran outside of still needing to improve on green flag starts. I think that kid has a shot to maybe make a living at driving stock cars if he keeps working on it. 18. jensenators posted: 11.29.2019 - 10:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Info to be added based on pit road interviews during the race: Crew Chiefs: 25- Bobby King. 31- Bryant Fraser. 52- Wayne Day. This may also be Rusty Wallace's debut as an announcer, as he joined Mark Allen, and Mark Garrow in the TNN booth for the entire race. 19.
