Coming one year to the race after his first this was Jason Keller's 2nd career Busch series start Defending event winnner David Green was not in this race. Green spent the 1992 season as a pit crew member for Bobby Labonte and made no starts all year. 5. Only driver to not qualify was Atlanta Falcons' coach Jerry Glanville. Word was track owner Bud Lunsford pleaded with NASCAR to let the lone non-qualifier be added to the field ... but, NASCAR ... being NASCAR ... stuck by the letter of the rule book (!) and wouldn't allow it! 6. I heard it is up for sale. 9. Great stuff!!!! Upon further review, I couldnt help but notice the #08 of Bobby Dotter, and what seemed to certainly look like 2 models rolled up into 1 car: his car hadan Olds body (Team R had a few Olds they used on rare occasions), but a Lumina nose! Don't think I've ever seen that before. Once for a BGN race @ Hickory, polesitter Ernie Irvan had an Olds body, but a Chevy hood (evidenced by a bowtie emblem)....only in BGN! 13. Every single car in that field was torn up, not just because of the record # of cautions, but there was only one groove you could run on and the only way to pass was knock each other out of the way. With this being the very next week and also being a 1/3 mile track, I'm sure most had to bring the same car back and piece together whatever body types they could find. 14. A lot of teams only ran a specific car so they had the fit and use what they had. A different place and time back then. 15. They told a funny story in this race after talking about Jeff Gordon getting his 4th pole already in the season and how well he has qualified. The race the week before this in Hickory was supposed to be run the week after Daytona. They got qualifying in, had to postpone the race until the week before this, but kept the qualifying results from before. Jeff Gordon had a very poor qualifying effort from what his team expected and they were very confused about it. Another team was beside them, forget who they said it was, and pointed out to them that they had left the restrictor plate on. They were using a car for the race they had been testing with the week before at Daytona and somehow nobody realized they left the plate on while they were qualifying on a 1/3 mile track. 16. 27YearsBehind posted: 05.07.2019 - 12:08 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I assume that there was an exception to the two lap penalty for changing tires under yellow if one or more of your tires were flat. Joe Nemecheck came in for right side tires under caution P5 after contact with J. Burton and did not suffer a penalty, but his right front was destroyed. 17.
