He was down a lap, but made it up under green, and then made his way up to battle Dale Earnhardt for the lead and won on the last lap. 3. bill posted: 09.23.2008 - 9:07 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) This was one of the best races ever at Loudon. Earnhardt got into Nemechek in the middle of 3 and 4 on the last lap. He could of wrecked Joe for the win, but Earnhardt backed off and let Nemechek regain himself. This was a combo race with the Busch North. It's great to see all those Busch North guys like Dick McCabe. 4. 23andJoe posted: 06.05.2014 - 8:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #15 crew chief: Tim Kohuth 5. 23andJoe posted: 09.19.2014 - 3:54 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #16 crew chief: Frank Stoddard 6. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 09.21.2015 - 9:08 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Caution 1: Lap 20-23: #11,59 spun turn 4 Caution 2: Lap 44-46: #18 fluid on track Caution 3: Lap 57-61: #25,27 spun backstretch Caution 4: Lap 63-65: #27 accident turn 1 Caution 5: Lap 105-110: #22,49,60,63 accident turn 1 Caution 6: Lap 151-154: #19 accident turn 2 Caution 7: Lap 159-162: debris turn 1 Caution 8: Lap 168-172: #14,22,25,45,51 accident turn 3 Caution 9: Lap 174-181: #20,22 accident turn 1 Caution 10: Lap 202-205: #59 spun turn 1 Caution 11: Lap 211-212: #25 spun turn 2 Caution 12: Lap 218-222: #9,14 spun turn 1 7. Mike Joy and Neil Bonnett both said when he got Joe sideways (and Joe did a heck of a job getting it back) Earnhardt could've easily drove off and pulled away for the win with only 2 laps left. But he realized he accidentally got into him and didn't want to win that way, so he backed off the throttle and waited for Joe so they could race for it. Looking at it again on the slow motion replay it looked like Joe started to lose it himself going into turn 3, the back started to sway out from him and that's why Dale came up on him so fast. 8. They asked him when was the last time he had to run in a qualifying race to get into a Busch Series race and he said probably 1976 or 77 when he was running full time when it was the Sportsman Series. 9. Joe Nemechek who was still proving his name versus Dale Earnhardt, at the time a 5 time cup champion battling door to door. It was Nemechek masterfully being able to use the top line to power off the turns and keep ahead of Earnhardt. Earnhardt made casual contact with him numerous times but Nemechek was totally unphased by it. He proved why he was a deserving 1992 title winner in this race alone. If you havent seen these laps, check it out on Youtube right now! The remainder of the race really was not bad. Ernie Irvan kind of stunk up the show in the first half but after his engine failed, it really was wide open for the win among many drivers. The race featured its fair share of pretty big crashes in turns 1 and 2 especially after restarts. I think when NHIS was created, they were hoping races like this one would be a common place but for whatever reason, there just arent too many races on this track's long resume, historically. 10.
