Was he in connection with Greg Pollex who is listed here as the owner, or a co-owner? They did an interview with Rypien in the pit uniform introducing him as the owner and a graphic under saying Mark Rypien-Car Owner #23 and never mentioned anything about Pollex. 6. At the time, Tommy Houston was in the middle of his consecutive start streak dating back to 1982 and was in the last chance race and got into the show by finishing 9th. Tom Higgins did a write on him making the event so it was a big deal. According to an article Houston admitted he was relieved he made the race.
