ESPN had some fun as Mark closed on the victory by pointing out that trophy girl Cindy Lewis, Ms. Darlington for this race, was 6' 2" while Martin is a somewhat short guy at 5' 6" tall. They made sure to pose the two together on TV once Mark got to victory lane. Mark was barely up to her shoulder blade. 5. When a caution came out in the closing laps for a mechanical issue Mark Martin and defending series champion Joe Nemechek raced back to the line with the thought it would likely end the race. Martin won but it didn't as NASCAR quickly cleaned the track with the goal of restarting for the final lap. When the green flag flew Martin pulled away for the victory but future champion Randy LaJoie, making only his third start of the year, made it interesting as he quickly passed Nemechek for second and put some pressure on Martin even if he couldn't catch him. Nemechek had to settle for fourth as Chad Little also got by him on the white flag lap. Robert Presley won here in the spring but was a nonfactor in the fall. His #59 Lumina dropped a cylinder early and he had to just try and nurse it home through most of the day. The sick motor finally gave up the ghost in the closing laps and set up the finish. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
