Neil Bonnett had a strong run going until a turn 4 accident knocked him out. Said Neil of the accident in an RCR Chevy, "We were supposed to go hunting next week, I don't think I'm gonna go, Dale might shoot me!" 2. Taterracing posted: 08.21.2008 - 6:23 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) The race was postponed from March, but they had already had qualifying. So NASCAR used the qualifying results back in March to start this November race. Because so many drivers changed teams, many drivers had to go to the rear of the field because someone else qualified the car they were driving. Qualifier (qualified in March) - Racer (started in November) #3 Dale Earnhardt (4) - Neil Bonnett (29) #4 Ernie Irvan (7) - Jeff Purvis (30) #59 Robert Pressley (16) - Dennis Setzer (31) #16 Jeff Green (20) - Bobby Hamilton (32) #18 Dave Mader (21) - Phil Parsons (33) #0 Rick Mast (22) - Robert Pressley (34) #20 Joe Ruttman (24) - Randy LaJoie (41) #74 Jack Sprague (26) - Johnny Benson (35) #28 Davey Allison (30) - Hut Stricklin (36) #75 Butch Miller (34) - Rick Wilson (37) #70 Alan Russell (39) - Sterling Marlin (38) #81 Jerry Glanville (42) - Ronald Cooper (39) Joe Bessey ran an engine borrowed form the #2 Hardee's team. Coincidently, Bessey and the driver of the #2 Hardee's Chevy, Ward Burton, led the majority of the laps. The two put on a great show for the lead until Bessey wrecked after just taking the lead with about 10-12 laps to go. No contact from Burton. Bessey led about 56 laps. Burton led over 70 laps. In good sportsmanship, Bessey was the first to congratulate Ward Burton in victory lane. Mark Martin, Burton and Bessey had great battles for the lead at times. Martin crashed without contact from another driver. Many cars spun all by themselves including Bessey, Martin, Shawna Robinson and Neil Bonnett. This was Ward Burton's final Busch Series win of the 1993 season and of his career. Burton moved up five positions in points because of the win. He moved from 11th to 6th to conclude the 1993 season. 7. Matt posted: 11.19.2008 - 10:51 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Car owner for Bobby Hamilton's #16 in this race was Wayne Day. 8. It was the first time watching a race that I ever thought the words, "I just saw a man die." Thankfully I was wrong. 12. BlackChevy14 posted: 09.17.2016 - 5:09 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Correction to comment No. 8 regarding Todd Bodine's last race with Team 34, he ran for Scott and Jeffrey Welliver as a teammate to the 34 from 1997-2000 (all but one season with Mike McLaughlin as the driver of the 34, David Green was the driver for the last season) but this site doesn't reflect the fact that the cars competed as one team for some reason. Todd drove the No. 36 Stanley car in 1997, nearly winning a title in the process. In 1998 he'd returned to Cup with the ill-fated ISM/Team Tabasco, upon his firing from that ride he replaced Mike Cope in the team's No. 30 Slim Jim car for the rest of the season (the 36 car having already been filled by fellow Cup exile David Green, replacing Matt Hutter who'd lasted a little less than his fellow '98 rookie Cope). At the end of the year the Slim Jim sponsorship went to Terry Labonte's team, and they picked up the Phillips 66/TropArtic Motor Oil sponsorship from Gary Bechtel's Diamond Ridge team after Elliott Sadler's move to Cup with the Wood Brothers (whether Sadler's departure corresponded with the loss of that sponsorship or not, I don't know, but noted anyway). So the 30 car became the No. 66 Phillips 66 car for 1999, Todd drove it through 2000 before going back Cup racing in '01 with that circuit's 66 car, taking over for Darrell Waltrip at Haas-Carter. Frank Cici (owner of Team 34) and the Wellivers parted ways at the end of 2001. Frank kept running his 34 Chevrolet, in '01 at least it was in partnership with Jimmy Spencer, the Wellivers partnered with Wayne Jesel for '02 as the first NBS team to run Dodge Intrepids full-time. They won a race with Hank Parker Jr. but his GNC sponsorship and the Phillips 66 sponsorship with rookie Casey Mears both went away at the end of the year. One more race in '03 with Chad Blount and pfft, they was gone. Obviously that's all at lot more information than anybody probably needed or wanted about career moves for Todd Bodine or Team 34, but still. I would suggest trying to find a bright spot but it would probably be bright like looking at Todd Bodine on a sunny day when he's not wearing a hat and you're not wearing sunglasses. So....yeah....some race, huh? 15. RaceFanX posted: 11.12.2016 - 4:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ward Burton caps off his tenure as a Busch series regular with a victory. Ward and the Hardee's-backed Dillard team moved up to Winston Cup together for 1994. Alan Dillard, Jr. did not field a Busch series entry again. Ricky Craven turns in a top-15 in his last race for Bill Papke's #99 team. Craven revived his self-owned team and moved back to it for the 1994 season, taking the DuPont sponsorship with him. Papke replaced him with Robert Pressley for the start of the 1994 season. 16. Unfortunately for them the ARCA and Busch titles were already locked up before the last race and the Winston Cup was pretty close to being locked up. Benny Parsons messed up at the end of the race broadcast and instead of somebody acknowledging it and correcting it they just acted like he was right and went on. Trying to hype the next days Cup finale as "you never know", he points out that in the first 2 races of championship weekend the champions had bad days. That was true of ARCA champ Tim Steele but Busch champ Steve Grissom didn't have a bad day, he had a top 10 finish, but Bob Jenkins just said yep, not a good day at all for Steve Grissom as he finished 9th. Only explanation is maybe in Benny's head he had a brain fart and thought David Green was the champion. 18. Anonymous posted: 12.03.2019 - 4:49 pm Rate this comment: (1) (3) Or maybe finishing 9th a lap down isn't a good day. Especially with so much attrition, without which he probably would have been around 20th. And I bet no one gave a crap about the championships being locked up either. There were races to watch, who gives a damn about points? Now we have a bunch of fake championship "excitement" and no one watches anymore. Weird how things work out, huh? 19. Robby posted: 12.03.2019 - 8:11 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) @18 I'm not the biggest fan of this system either, but don't even start with that nobody watches anymore crap. There are still millions of TV viewers every race and a lot of times the races are the most or second most watched sporting event of the weekend. Yes, it's not as many millions as it once was but it's still millions. If nobody watches NASCAR then I guess nobody watches IndyCar, NHRA, IMSA, F1 or whatever else either. 20. Jerry Glanville initially qualified for this race in March but withdrew and gave Ronald Cooper his starting spot, letting Cooper run his own team using Glanville's usual #81 instead of his own #56. Jerry had a good reason to sit this one out as he tended to be busy in the fall with his day job as being the head coach of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons were on the road this week but would go on to beat the LA Rams 13-0 the day after this race. 21. He sold his spot in the race to Phil Parsons. It looks like Alan Russell sold his spot in the race to Sterling Marlin and Fred Turner, he initially qualified an Oldsmobile but his team appears to have shut down early in the year so Marlin and Turner acquired his spot and raced a Ford. Mast and Miller also qualified Oldsmobiles but Pressley and Wilson raced in their place during this one in Chevrolets as the Cutlass continued to fall out of favor with many teams. Davey Allison and Ernie Irvan's teams changed hands during the interim, the former's cousin Tommy Allison taking it over after Davey's passing. 22.
