I remember TNN's Raceday saying that this race proved that nice guys can finish first. 3. EyeofTheCougar posted: 08.09.2014 - 1:15 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Wouldn't win again til 2001! Anyone remeber Randy LaJoie's crash into the tire barrel at the end of pit road? 4. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 04.09.2018 - 8:17 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Caution 1: Lap 24-27: #25,27,55,75 accident turn 2 Caution 2: Lap 30-32: #59 spun turn 4 Caution 3: Lap 69-72: #55 spun turn 4 Caution 4: Lap 86-90: oil on track Caution 5: Lap 106-117: rain Caution 6: Lap 160-165: #16 accident turn 4 Caution 7: Lap 184-189: #20 accident turn 4 Caution 8: Lap 193-199: #27 accident turn 4 5. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 04.09.2018 - 2:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Correction Caution 1 was from Lap 23-27 and Caution 6 was from Lap 161-165 6. He also mentioned Bobby Dotter was driving with a broken shoulder and Chad Little was driving with a broken shoulder and a broken leg. Besides that, just sit back and enjoy listening to Ken Squire's commentary durning this race. He makes what was a normal race like this sound so exciting! 7. Ken had just called the Busch race in Charlotte 2 weeks before this on TBS with Richard Petty as his broadcast partner in the King's first ever Nascar race as a broadcaster. He talked to Petty during the race about Richard owning his own Busch Series team for the first time in 1994 for quite a bit. One of the things about it that the most time was spent on was when Ken asked how Richard went about choosing who would be the driver for his Busch team and how he ended up choosing Rodney Combs, and he pronounced it right all day then comes to this race and can't pronounce it. Poster 6 is also definitely correct on Ken making the races he called always sound as exciting as possible. Any driver he would talk about he would always bring up a race (Busch or Cup) that they had most recently won, if they hadn't won yet he'd pick out a race they had their highest finish at. He'd then say there's (insert name), remember back in (insert date and race) when he put on that masterful performance. Only thing I can say negative about him is he needed to let his broadcast partner talk more, he'd talk over them all of the time, and it would be awkward when you'd hear the color guy try and make a point and get cut off all of the time. It was really bad with Richard Petty trying to say stuff during that Charlotte Busch race and Ken talking over him. DNQ List for this race: George Crenshaw Chris Diamond Eddie Goodson Mike Garvey Mike Skinner 9. All these great things about Squire's broadcast style I miss. He not only made the race fun to watch but was informative with everything he said. His demeanor kept you glued to the broadcast which is something NASCAR's coverage has been lacking greatly in the past several years. Today's broadcasters are unobservant, uninformative, carry on with pointless statistics nobody cares hearing about. Sad but 100% true 10. Eventual winner Sawyer was no exception - lined up 2nd on a mid-race restart, he dove to the inside of leader Randy LaJoie and the lapped car of Tracy Leslie to take the lead, but did it way too early and got black flagged by NASCAR as a result. He took 2 tires while in the pits serving his penalty and went on to claw his way back to the lead, and ultimately, the win. LaJoie later took a hard hit when he was spun into the tires at pit entrance by Dennis Setzer, but in spite of the significant damage on his car somehow managed to finish the race. Also notable - due to the injuries that Chad Little and Bobby Dotter were nursing, they were relieved in the early going by Jeff Green and Tom Peck, respectively, and both drivers went on to have terrific runs in place of their wounded compatriots. Green ultimately finished 5th in the #23 car for Chad Little, while Peck ran as high as 3rd in the Dotter entry before winding his day up in 7th. Possibly the last time that two relief drivers placed in the top-10 in a NASCAR event. 11. Sawyer pulled up and then then accelerated back up past the crash to hold on for his breakthrough win. 13. This appears to have been the late Eddie Goodson's last Busch Series attempt. 14. Rich posted: 09.18.2020 - 1:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ken Squier and Buddy Baker were the commentators.
