He had to start at the back because Ed Berrier qualified the car due to Mike qualifying at The Brickyard. His second trip to the back was for a black flag early on in the race after climbing up into the top 15. As it turns out, Wallace won three straight races on the first of the month in June, July, and August. This would be Mike's last Busch Series win until July of 2004 at Daytona. Johnny Benson was well on his way to his first Busch Series win and had the race won before blowing his right front tire with two laps to go. This was the late John Nemechek's lone Busch Series start, Jimmy Kitchens also made his Busch Series debut. 2. Mike Wallace's bid to be in the field for the first-ever Brickyard ended with a DNQ so hopefully this victory helped take a little of the edge off that. 7.
