Despite his pole, "Front Row Joe" was not having a good weekend. Nemechek was sick all weekend and had his brother John standing by during the race to serve as a relief driver. Joe eventually did give way to relief driver, using Derrike Cope instead. Tracy Leslie's #86 Chevy Lumina picked up some Coors Light sponsorship when Kyle Petty failed to qualify but it didn't help, he crashed on the first lap. Derrike Cope was having a surprisingly strong run, up in the top 5, before the rear end gave out and forced his retirement. He later got back into the race to serve as a relief driver for Joe Nemechek After crashing out, Johnny Rumley also reentered the race as a relief driver briefly for Larry Pearson, before Pearson took back over. Chad Little basically started the race a lap down due to some issues with the #23 Ford's sparkplug wires. His bid to keep 2nd in the point standings was still successful due to the crashes that eliminated rivals Jeff Green and Mike McLaughlin 8. RaceFanX posted: 11.26.2016 - 5:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ken Schrader's last Busch race in his famous #52 AC Delco Chevy ended with a hard crash backward into the wall just off Turn 2 with Rich Bickle that knocked several feet off the back of his Monte Carlo. The fuel cell on the #52 ruptured in the crash but thankfully there was no fire unlike in Mike Laughlin Jr's similar crash here the following year in a Busch qualifying race. Schrader continued to field the #52 team in 1996 with a number of drivers ending up taking a turn at the wheel, starting with Andy Hillenburg. Rich Bickle and the #54 team typically ran a blue Kleenex car in 1995 but their Ford Thunderbird had a black paint job for this race instead. The team picked up a new last minute sponsorship from Dura Lube for this race after Randy LaJoie missed the field and ran well despite that spin, just missing a top-10. LaJoie left the Dennis Shoemaker #64 team after the season but don't feel too bad for him as he was about to join BACE Motorsports for 1996 to replace departing series champion Johnny Benson, Jr. Geoff Bodine as noted before won the Truck Series exhibition the day before this race. He joined the CBS broadcast of this event as an announcer. 23. RaceFanX posted: 10.20.2017 - 1:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The finish of this one was wild as Ron Thiel, Jr.'s late crash set up a three lap trophy dash for all the marbles and the spot in the record book as the first Busch winner at Homestead. Kenny Wallace led on the restart with Hermie Sadler, Larry Pearson, and Dale Jarrett giving chase with the rest of the field, led by Tim Fedewa, falling far behind. Sadler made his move down the backstretch on the penultimate lap and took the lead with Pearson following behind into turn 3 as Wallace went high only for Pearson to bump Sadler causing him to spin into Wallace and trigger a three-car melee that wiped out all three cars! Jarrett went low to take the lead, and the win, as the three leaders just seconds earlier went up the track and hard into the outside wall. Wallace's Red Dog #8 hit with enough impact it almost rolled over after Sadler's DeWalt #1 pinched it against the wall while also getting some air as he too backed it in the fence. 24. Keller and his team started out the week in Homestead helping out with a Habitat for Humanity construction project before he turned in a great run here, qualifying near the front and running in the top-10 all day as he had a solid drive to close out 1995 with a third-place finish. 33. Zach posted: 02.27.2021 - 2:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The official NASCAR channel just uploaded this race. Larry Pearson got out of the car and said he felt a little dizzy and his arm was asleep. Then all of a sudden with 30 to go, not only is he back in the car but probably had the fastest car in the field. Ran into the back of Hermie on lap 199 after Hermie probably went too hard into the corner going for the lead and had to brake. Also a funny side note: Talking about Dennis Setzer driving for 5 different teams in 1995, Ken Squier said "It reminds me of Morgan Shepherd in the old days" and I just found that amusing because Shep would end up outlasting almost everyone in the field this day. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
