His #71 had engine problems on the pace laps and he had to pit for repairs. Thery got it fixed and Lapage got rolling but the field took the green flag at the same time. He was literally lapped by the leaders going into Turn 1 on the opening lap. The day only got worse from there, Lepage was knocked out of the race in a multicar crash on lap 29 with Jeff Purvis, Dale Fischlein, and Randy LaJoie. 6. stricklinfan82 posted: 05.18.2008 - 12:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Terry Labonte, David Green, and Phil Parsons were running 8th, 9th, and 10th, and Grissom, Barrett, and Combs were a lap down before the final round of green flag stops. They all stayed out and caught a caution after the rest of the field pitted, and since there were no more cautions finished 1st-6th. Mark Martin, Ward Burton, and Bobby Labonte had the three best cars and pulled away from Terry Labonte on the restart but never had a chance to catch up without a caution. 7. Of course he was the one with the "Texas" moniker, so it makes sense he wouldn't have had Georgia on his mind... 16. First it was Rodney Combs at Rockingham and then Jeff Fuller did it here, bringing aboard some of his normal Sunoco sponsorship in the process. As noted earlier though Ritch still got to race, Fuller started the car for the points then handed the #02 over to Ritch to drive it through the rest of the race although Ritch would crash out at about the halfway point. 18. 1995z71 posted: 03.09.2020 - 12:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Following this race, Steve Grissom appeared on WCW Nitro. Being interviewed by Mean Gene Okerlund, they talked about coming from 43rd to 4th in this race & being 3rd in the points. Odd thing is, despite all this, the team skipped the next race, made 2 more races (both Top 10s), skipped the next 3 races before racing the next 2 and calling it quits on the season. 19. The Diamond Ridge WCW #29 team ran all year although Greg Sacks and later rookie Elliott Sadler would take it the ride later on after the team fired Grissom because its Cup season wasn't going well. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
