Such a welcoming family! This was the 2nd or 3rd race I'd helped them (Nazareth & Dover also) .... can anyone do that today with the big $$ in the sport now? .... Tommy had a great run going and was coming to the front when engine gremlins ended his day. We had backstretch pit stall #1 off turn 2; TNN televised this race & I taped it, & there's a brief shot of me going under the hood to take a look as Tommy climbed out. As we packed up after the race, Tommy asked me to write to Suburban Propane's HQ (Whippany, NJ, which is near my home) to thank them for their support. Of course I did that the next day! I'll never forget arriving @ the track Friday afternoon, driving my own car thru turn 2's access gate ONTO THE TRACK, making several 25 MPH laps, & distinctly noticing the differing banking % in the turns .... frequent visits to the concession stands all weekend to experience the track's legendary fried bologna sandwiches, YUM! .... standing by Dick Trickle before driver intros and seeing him drink a cup of hot coffee and smoke a cigarette in 90+ degree heat with 1 hand and holding a briefcase in the other .... thought my hero Steve Grissom was making a cameo in the #29 WCW car, but alas it's Bill Ingle living out his fantasy driving a racecar vs. his weekend gig of crew chiefing. 5. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 01.09.2018 - 12:30 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Caution 1: Lap 4-11: #10,46,68 accident turn 1 Caution 2: Lap 45-49: #29,47,57,66,68 accident turn 3 Caution 3: Lap 141-147: #00 accident turn 4 Caution 4: Lap 214-220: #3 spun turn 4 Caution 5: Lap 237-241: #00,47,75 accident turn 3 Caution 6: Lap 265-267: #1,74 accident turn 2 6. His son Austin won an Xfinity title and a Cup race. 7. RaceFanX posted: 01.09.2018 - 1:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Todd Bodine picks up his only win of 1996. This was also the first and ultimately only win for Ron Neal's team and their #81 Cape Canaveral Cruise Chevrolet team. This was a great win for a squad that had started the year without much sponsorship but picked one as Bodine ran well. 8. The move from Ford to Pontiac for the new season likely wasn't turning out as hoped for the #23 team as it had been a title contender in 1995 before the switch. 9. At the 200 lap mark, Buckshot Jones ran out of talent and overcorrected into Bodine's left rear panel. Todd spun his car onto the apron and continued with minimal time loss. Buckshot himself eventually got wrecked 37 laps later. This race of his was shocking even by his standards. Crashed 2 times and spun 3 cars (Bodine, Porter, Parsons), 4 of them his mistakes, while the second crash was Fuller turning Heveron into Jones' back. 10. His #68 Chevrolet went out early with a mechanical failure but it was still his best result of the season as he DNQed every other time he brought it to the track this year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
