Two obscure drivers (Bender & Robby Gordon) won the poles in their respective races. Whatever happened to Bender anyway? Was he hurt or did he just get booted? 3. Not sure what happened but if I recall something happened to his car and he nailed the wall at Bristol and got injured before the race. As a result Robbie Reiser who was the owner and probably the crew chief started the car to receive owners points to stay as far as he could to get provisionsals. 4. During his lengthy recuperation time, he dug up plans he had made a number of years back for a racing series that fielded 3/4 scale Cup cars powered by snowmobile engines (Bender had been involved in snowmobile racing long before his stock car career). Eventually he decided to focus exclusively on this endeavor, thus ending his NASCAR driving career but eventually creating the Cup Lites Racing Series in 1998. He's since gone back to snowmobile racing as a team owner. ...And meanwhile, Matt Kenseth has a Winston Cup championship. 5. He eventually won three Busch races at the Georgia superspeedway. Doug Heveron's NASCAR career ended with his DNQ here. 9.
