Mark Martin was having a great weekend. After winning this Busch race he'd take the lead in the Cup race the next day only to grenade his motor while leading on lap 143 8. Series regular Mike McLaughlin led the most laps but this one came down to a three-way fight between Cup Series racers Mark Martin, Jimmy Spencer, and Jeff Burton. Martin didn't lead until 13 laps to go when he passed Spencer with a move on the backstretch that Burton almost took three-wide. Once he got out in front Martin's Winn-Dixie #60 Ford wouldn't be caught en route to the historic win. 11.
