Todd Bodine had slipped from 2nd to around 10th in the early going after the handling went away on his car, but was able to fight back through the field and get to Sadler's bumper by the final laps, with both leaders cutting through lapped traffic and Elliott narrowly able to hold the #36 off. 8. They were out of business by 2001) Elliott Sadler's victory made him the fourth first-time winner of 1997 season. This was the third year in a row the Nazareth round of the championship produced a first-time winner following Tim Fedewa's win in 1995 and Randy LaJoie's 1996 triumph. 9.
