Todd Bodine's championship hopes took a dark turn after crashing with a
lap car while racing back to the caution.

And that was when Bodine refered to Chris Diamond as a weapon.........to
this day, almost 10 years later, my brother and I still make jokes about
that comment

Randy LaJoie's victory, his fourth of the season, and Todd Bodine's last
lap misfortunes helped LaJoie and his BACE Motorspors team to leap past
him back into the points lead. LaJoie would not relinquish the lead
again on his way to the 1997 championship.

The Commentators For The Race Were Mike Joy, Ned Jarrett And Buddy
Baker. The Pit Road Reporters Were Dick Berggren And Ralph Sheheen. The
Studio Host Was Ken Squier.

Driver changes for Cup drivers who missed qualifying due to being in
Daytona for the Cup race the day before.

#44 Ron Hornaday Jr qualified for Bobby Labonte
#2 Jack Sprague qualified for Ricky Craven
#64 Jim Sauter qualified for Dick Trickle

Seemed like Jim Sauter was always around every week to qualify or relief
drive for someone if they needed it.

Another note on Rick Fuller - making his debut during an off weekend for
the Modified Series, his team tried to play the pit strategy game late,
with Rick staying out long after others had made their stop and running
in or around the top-10 for much of the late going. With around 8 to go,
he finally came in and relinquished the track position, ultimately
winding up 22nd.

Rick had high hopes for a full-time effort in the #40 in 1998, but lost
his ride only two races into the season...and after a one-off start in
'99 for Team Rensi, never again attempted the field for a Busch Series
race.
