Kevin Lepage and the David Ridling-owned #88 team lost their sponsorship
from Hype energy drinks leading up to this race but picked up a new
sponsorship to replace it...however instead of starting it off instantly
the team instead gave its black #88 Chevrolet a teaser scheme with a
cryptic sponsorship declaring "TBA 10/4/97" as they wouldn't be
revealing their new backer until the fall Charlotte race. The team ran
the TBA livery for a few races but the big reveal that truck-rental
company Ryder would be their new sponsor.

The commentators for the race were the three-man team of Jerry Punch,
Ned Jarrett and Benny Parsons with Bill Weber and Kyle Petty on pit road.
