This raced marked the only time Dale Earnhardt, Jr. has ever driven a
Busch or Cup race outside DEI, Chance 2 or RCR. Driving for Ed Whitaker,
Earnhardt started an impressive second, lead several laps and had a shot
at winning before Robert Pressley bumped him and spun him out.

not true....

he ran for Ed Whitaker later that year at Fontana. In 2001, he ran the
87 for Joe Nemechek at Charlotte.

Randy Lajoie and Buckshot had another one of their deals in this race,
that was a good rivalry.

According to this 1998 Busch Series media guide:

"Larry Pearson qualified his car 26th, but wrecked his car during
qualifying. Pearson withdrew his entry and Chris Diamond used his own
back up car and used Pearson's spot and car number #50 to make the race."

doing a segment

Defending race winner Jeff Fuller finished in ninth place, turning in
what turned out to be his final top-10 finish in the Busch series
although he continued to race in it for many years to come.

Robert Pressley finishes third driving for Tad Geschickter's #47 Sunoco
Chevrolet team that won this race a year earlier with Jeff Fuller at the
wheel. This was Pressley's best finish during his tenure with the
Geschickter team.

Pit reporter Bill Weber reported under the first caution Randy LaJoie's
spotter's radio went dead and the team is trying figure out how to get a
new radio to the spotter. Problem is the spotters are on top the roof
outside of the track on top. And getting across the track during the
race is hard to do. So the team's owner, Bill Baumgardner is standing on
top of the teams transporter in middle of the garage doing the spotting.
Then, under the second caution (at the 11 minute, 50 seconds mark on
YouTube of this race).. its quite humorous watching the fireman trying
to put the fire out on Glenn Allen's car and Benny Parsons commentary is
hilarious!

Dr. Jerry Punch, Ned Jarrett and Benny Parsons were the commentators.
Bill Weber and Kyle Petty were the pit road reporters.
