Martin was on newer tires but still lost to Jim. 2. mcmurrayfan posted: 06.20.2006 - 10:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Best career finish (as of 6/20) for Mark Green. 3. The relationship didn't work out, Kevin left the team after this race and Ryder left the team, with motorcycle legend Kevin Schwantz as its new driver, after the 5th race of the 1998 season. 4. He'd match this fifth-place a decade later at Talladega but never better it. 15. Dale Jr was besides himself and shamefully went home and chugged vodka with his friends...until his dad got home and exploded at what he saw. After Dale Sr calmed down, he had a nice, long talk with Jr, convincing him that he would have more chances and that his career wasn't over. He also told him that he should be at the shop helping peel the body off the wrecked car instead of sitting at home drinking alcohol to cope -- that's how you gain respect and earn yourself more chances, Dale Sr said. It was a turning point in Dale Jr's young career. Source: straight from Dale Jr's mouth on the Waltrip Unfiltered podcast. 18. I know Sr. couldn't be there all the time for Jr., but when it came to life lessons he was a good teacher. 19.
