In the Truck Race at that same place back in March, his little brother John was killed in an accident in turn 1. Yeah, Joe needed this. 2. Oddly both previous winners of this race, Dale Jarrett and Kevin Lapage, were in the Hooligan last chance race for this event. 10. Joe was the man at this track. Won this race several times Milestones Last time the "hooligan" race was held. That was a qualifying race that was held to fill the last 10 spots of the field. They did that at Charlotte for a number of years. It was things like that race that made the Busch Series special and unique. Now it just seems like a qualfying race featuring Cup drivers. Last race Royal Oak Charcoal was a primary sponsor of a car. Won two races with Mike McLaughlin Last race for the 49 team 12. To me, the more emotional victory for Joe was earlier in the year at Charlotte, just 2 months after John died. His mom was there crying and Joe was too and it made me cry. Watching it over I know exactly how he felt and could imagine it. Joe was 6 1/2 years older than John and Joe was 33 when John died just a few days after turning 27. There is the exact same age difference between me and my little brother. I was 33 years old and my brother was a month shy of turning 27 when he unexpectedly died. You grow up with that age difference always feeling like you are their protector and then become best friends when they get older. I know how Joe felt. 18.
